From 11 until 13 October we were with °Celsius at the Powtech in Nuremberg. Our largest stand ever (72m ²), this year there was enough space to show our visitors a "real" screw heat exchanger. We would like to thank everyone who visited our stand, we have gained many new contacts and hope to expand these contacts in the coming period.
The machine that was exhibited is a screw heat exchanger type CTV800 in SS 316 for heating water with fish waste (with fish oil and bones varying between 40 and 50mm) that will be supplied to the Norwegian company Biomega AS.
Biomega is the production company within the Marine Bioproducts group. Biomega AS buys food quality salmon by-products (such as fish heads, backbones and intestines) from local salmon slaughterhouses. The Biomega process is based on enzymatic separation; this is the gentlest separation of oil, proteins and bones, in order to maintain the superior biological quality.
The screw heat exchanger type CTV800 is 6 metres long from flange to flange and is fitted with paddle blades. The machine has a capacity of 7500kg per hour and heats the product from 55°C to 95°C; this is done by heating the body and the screw casing with 120°C steam. The machine has a thermal capacity of 350kW and a total heat transfer area of 20m².
Biomega adds enzymes to the "soup" of fish waste, which dissolves the proteins in the liquid. To stop the enzymatic breakdown the product has to be heated and this is done at a temperature of around 90°C to 95°C.
