In many cases a number of important parameters of bulk goods is unknown and every product reacts differently. It is therefore recommended to test first before buying a screw heat exchanger. During the test the unknown parameters for the product can be determined in order to be used for the scaling of the product capacity. These tests can also help to further optimize the design of the screw heat exchanger.
Design of the screw heat exchanger
When the necessary information is known, the size and the design of the screw heat exchanger can be determined. In order to determine the size of the screw heat exchanger, a large number of parameters is important. The most important scaling parameter is the necessary surface for the process in combination with the retention time. The surface is determined by the type and the length of the screw heat exchanger. Graph 1 shows a typical temperature progress in a screw heat exchanger dependent on the length.
It is also possible to choose a body with several screws. The advantages here are the improved mixing effect and the reduced room that is needed. For the construction of the screw heat exchanger 'normal' construction materials like Steel, RVS304, RVS316, etc. can be used. The use of other materials or a combination of construction materials is also possible.
